The Torca

Woods: Redwood with Maple pattern

Product Notes: The stained glass in this piece is called Waterglass. When lit, the glass creates a pattern of rays down the wall.

Personal Notes: This piece is the result of tinkering with bowl designs. I'm not a turner, so I was coming up with other ways to make a round vessel. With precise curved cuts on the band saw, I discovered I could make a series of concentric half-rings from a single piece of wood, stack them and glue the two halves of the bowl together. I don't make the bowls anymore, but half of a bowl became a sconce when I added some lighting hardware. The design elegantly uses very small pieces of wood that other woodworkers might consider scrap.
